WANA Forum

The West Asia - North Africa (WANA) Forum is a multi-stakeholder process that brings together key individuals from WANA to address social, economic and environmental challenges and increase regional cooperation. To achieve this objective, the WANA Forum will identify shared human concerns in order to formulate concrete policy proposals that will be presented to decision-makers.

The WANA Forum was initiated in response to the need for non-threatening and constructive dialogue in the region, where people have been deprived of multilateral approaches that offer effective solutions to a wide range of pressing issues.

The participatory nature of the WANA Forum sets it apart from other initiatives. People from across the region may visit our interactive website to vote and outline the agenda for the process through an online public opinion poll - the results of which will be announced at the April Forum, 2009.

At the Forum, representatives from organisations and initiatives, already working on regional cooperation, will be invited to team up with key stakeholders from different backgrounds. These ‘Forum Members’ will participate in annual meetings, which will define and shape the future course of action.

Following the April Forum, regional experts will meet in workshops to create innovative policies that deliver feasible solutions to joint challenges in WANA.

Alongside these events, interim consultations will reinforce ties between stakeholders and existing projects to ensure action-oriented engagement.

The WANA Forum is not a single event but a long-term process that provides opportunities for partnership, advocacy and policy development. Through ongoing cooperation, stakeholders will work together year-round in a collaborative spirit to overcome the obstacles impeding positive development in the region.
