El Hassan Youth Award

El Hassan Youth Award
The idea of El Hassan Youth Award (previously called the Crown Prince Award) Scheme was derived from the Duke of Edinburgh's Award Scheme established in 1956. It spread to several countries in the world under many titles. El Hassan Youth Award Scheme was started in Jordan in 1984 as a pilot scheme in the Amman Baccalaureate School. The Scheme is not an organization. It is a program of practical, cultural, professional and adventurous activities designed to be used by all agencies having a concern for the development of young people. The Scheme and its programs are flexible enough to meet youthful enthusiasm and aptitudes whatever their background or culture is, however plentiful or limited their resources are. El Hassan Youth Award provides a big opportunity for Jordanian youth between the ages 14-25 to enroll in a self-challenging, educational, and non-academic program. Participation in the scheme is voluntary. There are three separate Award levels; Bronze, Silver and Gold. To get the Award for any of these levels the person must meet the requirements of four programs; services, expeditions, skills and physical recreation. Candidates working for the Gold Award must undergo an additional activity called the "Residential Project". Completion of the requirements of each level allows the participant to advance to the next level. The philosophy of the Scheme incorporates the basic set of human values long sought by every society; freedom, justice, co-operation, participation, love, affiliation to the country and the sense of social responsibility. The most important strategy adopted by the Scheme lies in present opportunity and challenge to the participant in order to achieve the maximum for themselves and their society, based on participation rather than competition.
