Regional Human Security Centre
“Protection and empowerment through knowledge”

Mission Statement

The Regional Human Security Centre is an independent institution that endeavours to advance the human security agenda through applied research, training and facilitation of dialogue around practical policy recommendations.

The objectives of the RHSC are as follows:

Raise the level of awareness of humanitarian and human security issues amongst academics, practitioners, and policy makers at the national, regional and international levels.

Build a strong and multidisciplinary in-house team of academic researchers capable of providing original high-level research that develops the theories of human security whilst advancing practical solutions to the humanitarian crises in the region.

Serve as a forum where stakeholders from across West Asia can be drawn together to work in a collegiate atmosphere to address the wide-ranging and threatening human security issues.

Build a collection of knowledge that allows stakeholders from across the region to draw on the work of the RHSC and to develop their own research strategies, which in turn could be funded by the RHSC Research Trust Fund.

Assist governmental and non-governmental entities across the region in the design and implementation of humanitarian programmes and policies.

Offer training on subjects related to human security.

Regional Focus

The Centre extends its interest to the wide-ranging and inclusive region of West Asia, to include the Middle East and North Africa.

Training and Dissemination

One major focal point of Centre’s activity is the training of individuals. The Centre undertakes an annual summer school, which brings together academics, thinkers and researchers to discuss and formulate the new developments of human security.
