Her Royal Highness Princess Badiya
H.R.H Princess Badiya El Hassan, third daughter of
H.R.H Prince El Hassan of Jordan and H.R.H Princess Sarvath, was
born in Amman, Jordan in 1974. She has a BA Hons in History from
Oxford University. Following her BA, she studied law in London,
qualifying as a barrister, and was called to the Bar by Lincoln's
Inn in 1998. She then successfully completed an LL.M. in public
international law at The London School of Economics. Princess
Badiya subsequently gained experience working for UN agencies in
Geneva and New York. Since then, Princess Badiya has worked both
independently with various international organisations, and with her
father, Prince El Hassan, and the organisations he is associated
with.
She often represents her father at
meetings and events, and delivers speeches on his behalf.
She is additionally a Trustee of the El Hassan Trust.
Princess Badiya is
involved with initiatives to promote human rights in general and,
more specifically, the rights of asylum seekers and refugees.
Princess Badiya is Prince
Hassan's designated representative at Council Meetings of the Geneva
based Refugee Education Trust (RET). RET offers secondary education
opportunities and life skills training to young refugees all over
the world. Princess Badiya is a member of
the UK board of directors of Africa Middle East Refugee Assistance (AMERA-UK)
which currently provides/supports legal aid services for asylum
seekers in Egypt and Uganda with a view to expanding across the
region.
Princess Badiya works with projects to further interfaith and cross
cultural understanding. She is a member of the executive committee
of the London based Interfaith Foundation. Her other UK commitments
include her role as an Ambassador for the Prince's Trust. The
Prince's Trust gives practical support to help young people overcome
barriers and get their lives working. Princess Badiya is an active
supporter of Mosaic, The Prince of Wales's Muslim Monitoring
Project which is aimed at encouraging and assisting the British
Muslim communities, and their youth in particular, to fulfill their
positive potential.
Princess Badiya is regularly invited to give lectures, often to
students (at school and university level), in England and North
America on Islam, human rights and related issues.
Princess Badiya became engaged to
Mr. Khaled Edward Blair in September 2004, they were married in
Amman in June 2005. |
